Dining Room Furniture The dining-room will always be a place for eating food and other eatables. Nowadays it is generally beside a kitchen. This is done to improve convenience while serving. But in Old Ages it can be seen that the kitchen would be a totally different storey. Considering the old times, dining rooms had big dining tables and many chairs for dining; and the commonest table figure is a rectangular one which has 2 armed chairs with a regular arrangement of un-armed chairs by the sides which were long.
During the Old Ages, European nobility and the higher-ups, Britons in big manors or big castles always ate/dined in the big room which is referred to as Great Hall of the respective castle. The Great Halls at those times were big multi-purpose rooms which were capable of providing seats for the big population residing at the house. A family sits by the head-table which was on a dais raised, and the remaining was arrayed according to the order related to the rank from the family. Great Halls were always noisy. Lot of smoke would appear. There were large amounts of food in the Great Hall. Over the years due to the discomforts provided by the Hall, people started to construct places beside the Hall for relaxation and over the areas, the size of the dining room became as we see today. Today’s dining rooms are very suitable for the type of families we witness. There are many types of tables. There can be round type or square or many more shapes. And the make can also be different. The tables have come a long way from the way they used to be.
